ABC Bank supports community development through Oloika Pre-Unit Primary School

ABC Bank has taken a significant step in support of the Oloika community development through the donation of kitchen equipment to Oloika Pre-Unit Primary School in Kajiado County. This follows the Bank’s earlier involvement in the rehabilitation of the Oloika Borehole and First Acre Project launch in May 2024, an initiative by the National Steering Committee on Disaster Response (NSCODR), and a subsequent Beekeeping project in December 2024.

Oloika Pre-Unit Primary School, which serves 95 young learners, previously relied on a traditional three-stone fireplace for meal preparation. With the bank’s support, the school’s kitchen has now been upgraded with energy-efficient smart jikos and charcoal kilns, installed in collaboration with Cookswell Jikos.

During the handover on Wednesday, 23rd April 2025, community representatives received hands-on training on how to safely and effectively use and install the new cooking kilns, ensuring a smooth transition from traditional cooking methods. Aside from the capacity building, the support package also included the construction of a cement floor for the kitchen and the provision of clean water for food preparation.

“ABC has stood with us from the rehabilitation of our borehole to the beekeeping initiative, and now, donating kitchen equipment for our students. We are truly grateful to ABC Bank for their support in ensuring our community thrives and is sustainable,” said Mr. Philip Ntokai, a teacher at the school.

This latest initiative marks a new chapter in Oloika’s transformation. With improved kitchen facilities, learners can now enjoy nutritious meals in a healthier environment, helping them focus better and remain in school throughout the day.

“This is more than Corporate Social Responsibility; it’s a long-term, sustainable impact,” said Mr. Phillip Wambua, the General Manager, Treasury & Financial Institutions at ABC Bank. “We are proud to walk alongside the Oloika community as they create a brighter, self-reliant future.”
